RESONARE

Project Description

The project “RESONARE – Risiko- und Eskalationspotenziale von Informationsmanipulation: Narrative, Akteure und Rezeption” examines the impact of disinformation on society. Together with the Hasso Plattner Institute, Ubermetrics, and the The State Office of Criminal Investigation of Lower Saxony (LKA Niedersachsen), we are investigating the methods used by the actors behind information manipulation, their goals, and the effects of their actions. The project team is initially focusing on the detection and classification of information manipulation and how it incites hate speech and violence. Based on this, a demonstrator for the automated detection of hate speech following disinformation will be developed. In two use cases (disinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic and disinformation during election campaigns), the social perception and impact of disinformation will then be investigated. Based on this analysis, prevention strategies will subsequently be developed. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) for three years (March 2026 – March 2029).
