This is the updated version of the 2020 BIGS Standpunkt Number 11 „Cost of Violence to Society: A look at violent encounters between Perpetrators & the Police”. The study deals with estimating the economic costs incurred by society in Germany directly and as a result of violent clashes involving police officers in the line of duty. The appropriateness or legality of violent actions are explicitly not considered. The study is limited to the economic quantification of the manifold consequences of acts of violence.
