CEDAR – Common European Data Spaces and Robust AI for Transparent Public Governance

Project Description

On January 1, 2024, we kicked off our new Horizon Europe project CEDAR, which we will be working on until the end of 2026. The acronym stands for Common European Data Spaces and Robust AI for Transparent Public Governance.

In the current polycrisis, Europe is facing unprecedented challenges in the areas of health, migration, economy, climate, energy and defense. This has led to a sharp increase in emergency public spending and a relaxation of due diligence, which has been accompanied by an increase in corruption and fraudulent activities that have a significant negative impact on the European economy, society, environment and democracy.

Despite the potential of new technologies to become an effective tool in the fight against corruption and fraud, the public sector has been slow to embrace digitalization, resulting in a lack of data sharing, harmonization and proper analysis, making evidence-based decision-making almost impossible. This is where CEDAR will come in. Our institute, in close collaboration with 29 european partners, is working intensively on pattern detection in big data and economic impact evaluation of corruption.
