The decentralized production of electricity from renewable energy sources can significantly improve the risk structures compared to fossil plants, because a local event can only destroy a small part of the total energy production. However, examples suggest that renewable energy also has the potential to generate conflict and tension. This article provides an overview of the problems and suggests solutions.
