The private security industry contributes to the protection of our society in several ways. On the one hand, it offers products and services that are in demand by state security forces to increase their productivity in action. On the other hand, however, its products and services are in direct demand from the commercial sector or private households in order to increase protection beyond the level provided by the state. With the aim of revealing the contribution of the security industry to the security situation in Germany, the BIGS has been surveying the security industry in Germany every year since 2012.
