SUMMARY:Cyber Intermediaries: Private Entities Effect on National and International Cybersecurity
DESCRIPTION:What is the role of private companies like Microsoft\, Google and Siemens in shaping digital security in politics and society? In recent years\, there has been a gradual increase in the involvement of private institutions in national and international\, formal and informal processes of digital security policy. Against this background\, and focusing on a few different examples of international corporations such as Microsoft\, Google and Siemens\, this seminar will explore their agendas\, policies and actions to enhance our understanding of cybersecurity policy-making. In this PizzaSeminar\, Dr. Amit Sheniak will discuss these cooperations and measures\, especially in the context of their international impact. \nThe PizzaSeminar with Dr. Amit Sheniak with the title \n„Cyber Intermediaries: Private Entities Effect on National and International Cybersecurity”\nwill be held in English. \nPease register by e-mail until Monday\, 17.02.2020: info@bigs-potsdam.org. \nAbout the speaker:\nDr. Amit Sheniak is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, Federmann School of Public Policy and Government\, and a research fellow at the Hebrew University Cyber Security Research Center (HCSRC)\, the Davis Institute for International Relations and the Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace. He also serves as the Cybersecurity Policy Coordinator of the Israel Ministry of Defense (MoD) political-military & policy bureau. \nDr. Sheniak holds a MA and PhD in Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a post-doc from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government program for Science Technology and Society (STS). He had served in the past decade as a chief policy advisor and strategy analyst in various capacities at Israel’s parliament\, the ministry of defense and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). His consultancy\, research and publications investigate the social and political context and effect of emerging and disruptive technologies\, specifically with regard to cybersecurity conflicts\, cyber policy and expertise formation and their effect on international order\, sovereignty and legitimacy in the Middle East\, USA and China. \n\n
