BIGS is headed by an Executive Director, Dr. Tim Stuchtey.

Financial and corporate affairs, as well as strategic decisions, are managed by the administrative board, which is elected for this purpose by the annual meeting of the institute’s members. The administrative board is made up of the following members:

The Brandenburgische Institut für Gesellschaft und Sicherheit was formed as a cooperative venture by the University of Potsdam and UP Transfer GmbH, owned by the university, as well as the private corporations EADS, IABG and Rolls-Royce. It receives financial support from the State of Brandenburg.
